PROTON recently introduced the 2026 PROTON S70 i-GT 1.5 to the Sabah market, marking the model’s East Malaysia introduction following its official launch in Peninsular Malaysia on 22 September 2026. Held at City Mall, Kota Kinabalu, the introduction forms part of PROTON’s three-day roadshow from 2 to 4 October 2026, bringing the latest addition to the S70 family closer to customers, media and the wider Sabah community.

Sabah continues to be an important market for PROTON, with the brand recording strong growth in the state. Since 2018, PROTON’s sales volume in Sabah has grown from 3,427 units to 10,499 units in 2026, representing a 206.4% increase, while market share has grown from 5% to 10%.
This growth reflects the increasing confidence Sabah customers have placed in PROTON, while also reinforcing the brand’s responsibility to continue strengthening its presence and support in the state.

The model is offered in Lite and Prime variants and is powered by a naturally aspirated i-GT 1.5-litre engine paired with a CVT and torque converter, delivering smooth everyday driving while retaining PROTON Ride & Handling and three selectable drive modes.
The 2026 PROTON S70 i-GT 1.5 features 10 class-leading features spanning space and comfort, convenience and connectivity, and safety.
For space and comfort, the 2026 PROTON S70 i-GT 1.5 leads its price segment in length and wheelbase, while also featuring the widest body. This provides generous cabin space, including room for three passengers across the rear seat and an almost-flat rear floor. Both Lite and Prime variants also feature an extensive soft-touch instrument panel as standard.
For convenience and connectivity, the 2026 PROTON S70 i-GT 1.5 comes equipped with an Electric Parking Brake with Auto Brake Hold, Key Remote Engine Start and one-touch Auto Up/Down with Anti-Trap for all windows. Wireless Apple CarPlay© and Android Auto™ are also available for both variants from October 2026.

The 2026 PROTON S70 i-GT 1.5’s naturally aspirated powertrain has undergone an extensive validation programme, completing more than 5,400 hours of dynamometer testing and over 412,000 kilometres of road testing to support its durability, reliability and refinement for everyday driving.
The 2026 PROTON S70 i-GT 1.5 also retains PROTON’s focus on driving dynamics, pairing its naturally aspirated engine with a CVT and torque converter, while offering three selectable drive modes.
Strong Response From The Market
The 2026 PROTON S70 i-GT 1.5 has also received a strong market response since bookings opened on 7 September 2026.
Within the first 14 days, the new S70 Lite and Prime received more than 10,000 bookings, equivalent to an average of around one booking every two minutes.
